Do you sleep well at night? According to research, more than 100 million Americans aren’t getting the amount of sleep needed to ensure proper health 3. Further research states mattress quality is the biggest cause of poor sleep for those complaining of chronic pain 2. Finding the best mattress for better sleep is not an easy task and requires great due diligence and fortitude. To make things easier, we’ve combed through all our mattress reviews to come up with a list of the best mattress in each category we’ve compared so far.
Mattress quality has a direct impact on sleep quality and our health
Before we dive into our considerations of the inherent qualities found in the best mattress, let’s first take a moment to consider the importance of sleep. After all—to consider a mattress completely one must understand the many positive effects it may offer. In a 2015 sleep survey, the National Sleep Foundation found that the environmental factors played the largest role in sleep quality. Among these factors, mattress quality was the most important influence on sleep quality1. Second, to mattress quality, the temperature was the next leading environmental factor. This study also revealed that people that sleep well at night report having a 50% better overall state of health and quality of life 1. This suggests that mattresses have a direct influence over our health and wellbeing and that having the highest-quality mattress possible with the best possible temperature control will set us up for success. Simple right? As it turns out, finding the best mattress amidst the ocean of possible options can be quite a task.

Amerisleep AS3 (Liberty) Memory Foam
The Amerisleep AS3 is a tremendous example of modern innovation in mattress design. This mattress features four layers of foam designed to maximize the benefits of memory foam while avoiding overheating. The heat-dissipating action of the AS3 is best characterized by the Celliant material used in its outermost layer of fabric. This material has been engineered to actually convert body heat into light which compliments the already breathable design. All things considered, the Amerisleep AS3 is one of the best mattresses around and our top pick for anyone that wants to ensure a cool night’s sleep.
About Our Choices
We aren’t Scientists but we’ve done our research
Our picks for best mattress aren’t to be considered Scientific in nature. We’ve researched each of these mattresses extensively and have considered the attributes we feel to be most relevant for most people. These mattresses have been chosen for their overall value rather than their ability to address any single need. For example, a $2500 memory foam mattress will likely be of higher overall quality than a $600 one but our consideration takes into account both the quality and the price. In other words, if most people can’t afford it we don’t consider it a great mattress.
The mattresses listed here are those we feel best to represent the categories for which they were chosen as the best mattress. We’d like to make special note that when buying a new mattress one’s most immediate choice will be whether to buy a mattress online or to buy one in a local store. Many of the mattresses reviewed here are available in only one of the two. Most bed-in-a-box brands such as Nectar Sleep, Tomorrow Sleep, and Amerisleep only offer their products for sale online. This isn’t the case with every mattress but is a good general rule. For those buying in local stores; it’s now common to receive an in-home trial period during which you can return your mattress for a full refund. If your local mattress store doesn’t offer this—find another one!
