modernism

Modern design has deep roots in German and Scandinavian design from the mid-20th century. Modernism sought to exploit manufacturing technology advances at the time to create affordable houses and furniture that could be mass-produced.

When it came to furniture, modern design would substitute wood with steel, molded plywood, and plastic to balance the practical with the aesthetically pleasing. This approach and philosophy would spread to home design and push the cultural and creative boundaries even today.
